Today I just led a community living skills group on job interviews. I warmed up the group asking what they think is the number one thing they would do to prepare for a job interview. Ideas were things like "personal hygiene, clothing, preparing with questions for your employer, role-playing questions you might be asked, bring a resume and being able to articulate it--basic stuff most people know that these people may need a refresher on. Then I handed out a checklist that I found online (google is great) and had some people choose a bullet and talk about how they would prepare for that item as if they were looking to work in a fast food place. So the scenario of the fast food place helped. Then I found an article written about the top 10 mistakes of interviewees which was helpful for them they said. Next week I asked what they would like to work on and they mentioned practice filling out applications, building a resume and role playing questions...soo good I have ideas for next week.
We had a coping skills group today too that I co-led, this is prob the hardest group to lead I think, I had to run after someone that left the room abruptly and was not allowed to walk on the grounds alone..soo that was interesting. I wrote one weekly note today, walked it up to chart it in the unit and on my way out, they tend to say their farewells and today was ' you leavin on a jet plane?' 'Why YES!' was my response.
DESTRUCTIONNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!
