Today was a good day. I did a weekly note and did not need to make any corrections for once!haha. I had an individual with a pt and helped her establish a morning and evening routine. I gave her note cards and a self-checklist thingy that she can check off that she has completed her A.M. tasks and then write down what she'd like her incentive earned to be--i.e. tv time, listen to music, or talk with staff for 10 min about anything(she is very needy). I am bringing in stickers tomorrow to put on her little checklist sheets for the week. She told me to come every day at 9am to put the stickers on, but that's only if she actually does what is on her A.M. card. The nurses said they would take care of her evening routine stickers and will do that by putting a big sticker on her calendar for that day. Today I also saw that one pt who has schizophrenia is continuing to attend his groups this week. He has not attended ANY groups for WEEKS! We do the 'pound-it' thing instead of hand shakes and now it is becoming contagious throughout the unit. I led a group on self-awareness today and cashew, I actually used your brother's little psych analysis he did with me when we were at Portobellos lol with 8 pts hahaa. It actually worked really well and was fun. I let the pts draw or write their responses and then interpreted answers at the end. Luckily nobody got miffed by it especially considering how delusional they get. If anyone wants to do it let me know and I can send you the questions and then interpret your answers haha.
Today one of the interns did her in-service presentation and it was on OT in Oncology!! I was excited. At some point during the discussion at the end my supervisor asked me to share my research project I did last semester and then we got in this whole discussion on how limited the research for OT and Cancer is. My supervisor then mentions how she saw that the new AOTA journal, I think OT Practice? has an article in it on OT and cancer and I was able to immediately say that the author of that article is the lady I interviewed for my project! It was nice to be able to contribute like that, but i said right away that I didn't plan on stealing the girl's thunder cuz it wasn't really my presentation ee! But yes, check that article out (cashew, that means you too). Tomorrow the interns and 2 other OT's and I will be going out for dinner together since it is the one intern's last day! I am excited to go, but sad to see her leave-she is awesome. Hopefully tonite I will get more than 5.5 hrs of sleep? maybe? I will let you know.
au revoir!
(like that cashew? yes I thought you would).
